Digital Media

5 digital media forms.
- Video Games
- Mobile Phones
- Computer
- Digital Video
- Television
What number system is digital data based on? What two digits are used to code all digital data?
The binary or non-binary system. The binary symbol is 3 and the decimal system is 11.
What is a bit? What is a byte?
A bit is singular numerical value either 0 or 1 that encodes a single unit of digital and a byte is a sequence of bits; 8 bits or usually equivalent to 1 byte.
What is sampling rate? Find an image that explains how sampling works.
The sampling rate defines the number of samples per unit of time (usually seconds) taken from the continuous signal to make a discrete signal.

Analog Signal

Resulted Sampled Signal
How does Colour Depth or bit depth effect the appearance of an image? Find some images to illustrate the effect.
The Colour Depth effects the appearance of an image by boosting the bits or reducing the bits.

Colour Depth effects both still and video digital media. Sampling rate only effects video but not still media. Can you explain.

What image format were you saving your work in during developement of the frames?

During the process of making my frames I saved them as vector images.

Describe the creation process you followed.

The creation process I followed was extensive. My first charcter choice was Elmo but because of Inkscape's technical difficulties the program would always freeze not allowing me to save my work. I decided to change the charcter but couldn't decide on a charcter until the last 4 to 3 lessons we had on our assignment. Unfortunetly before deciding on a final charcter my USB was misplaced so it was tiring to keep tranferring frames from this the school PC to my home PC. Instead I made the whole animation at home in the result of having 566 frames. Due to not having my original USB  I used a spare USB but that USB unfortunetly wasn't able to be located on the school PC's therefore not allowing me to make my animation.
My final animation was a Fire Engine truck making its way into sight from the left and the latter rising. Then the letters that spell GO VERITAS come jumping in from the right, one by one jumping from step to step until they get to the top of the latter. Once each letter reached the top step, it would hang off the canvas resulting in spelling out GO VERITAS ! When all the letter reached their position on the canvas the latter would return to it's spot on the fire engine truck and the truck would "drive" away towards the right of the canvas and out of sight. Finally, to end the animation the words GO VERITAS enlarge until it covers most of the canvas.
The tools I used to create my frames were the basic tools on Inkscape which were :
- the Selector (to move everything around)
- Group and Ungroup in Objects (make truck move as one as well as the letters and the latter)
- the rectangle and square tool (make the fire engine truck's body and the outline of the latter)
- the circles tool (make the wheels)
- bezier tool (make the steps and door of the latter and truck)
- text tool (make GO VERITAS!)
- the colour bar (change the colour of the everything)
In all, I like my animation but I'm still dissapointed that I wasn't able to make it.

Describe what software you used and why you chose it.

The software I use to make my animation was Inkscape. Inkscape is a drawing program that can export frames from vector images to bitmap images. I chose this program because it was easier than Paint and you could manipulate specific shapes in a drawing so that you don't have to redraw everything.

the delay about my video for my assignment....

I have made 566 frames for my video and uploaded them onto Movie Maker. Unfortunetly my PC at home doesn't have the updated version so I'm going to have to do it at school. Sorry for the delay but it will be up Wednesday 30th March.

BouncingBall Movie

Using Inkscape and Movie Maker I made a 3 second movie and called it Bouncing Ball. The movie is really easy to make. All you have to do is draw a circle and a line a distance away from the ball. Then you move the ball closer to the line but after every move you had to save it. When the ball reaches the line all I had to do is select the ball and click by click squash the ball into an oval shape. The last part was the easier because all I had to do was duplicate all the images again but instead of the images starting from the top, they started from the bottom and made its way to the top.
Once the actually making of the images were finished, I just had to put it into Movie Maker and save it.

Inkscape- Pacman Baddies

<------------pacman-baddie

I made this pacman baddie on Inkscape using this website, http://speckyboy.com/2009/04/28/35-tutorials-to-create-amazing-vector-graphics-using-inkscape/ to guide me. At wasn't complicated unlike the light bulb I attempted earlier. I'm happy that I was successful with the end results.

Inkscape is a new program to me so it took  a while to figure everything out. During the process of making my Pacman Baddie, I found out how to resize the page, make circles, manipulate shapes into images, changes from solid colors to shading colors and many more.

The tools I used were:

<>
Selects, moves and resizes objects.

<>
Changes the filling and line colour of the drawing.

Makes circles. Hint: hold Ctrl to get a perfect circle.

Used for shading

Adds nodes to your drawing to manipulate it.
